Meet the Foundation Directors

Mark Haldane

Mark became a licensed professional hunter in 1986 and has guided hunters around the world. Mark co-founded Mozambique-based Zambeze Delta Safaris which was founded on sustainable game utilization through a long-term lease with the government. Mark has practiced conservation through sustainable use in Mozambique for over 25 years and brings a wealth of experience and passion to the Foundation. A naturalist, rancher, and birder, he has become an expert on the Zambeze Delta eco-systems and has built Zambeze Delta Safaris into one of the most respected hunting operations in the world.

Willem Briers-Louw.

A conservation biologist by trade, Willem focuses most of his efforts on the monitoring and research of large carnivores, however his work also extends into various facets of wildlife management and ecology across multiple taxonomic groups. He also facilitates law enforcement efforts within the Zambezi Delta landscape through database management. Willem holds a Master’s degree in conservation ecology and is currently enrolled for a doctorate degree, with over 10 years of experience in large carnivore conservation.

Richard T. Cheatham

Richard, a licensed attorney for 40 years, developed a passion for conservation and hunting at an early age. That passion grew exponentially with his involvement with Dallas Safari Club. Richard served as DSC President, DSC Frontline Foundation founder and President, and DSC Foundation President (and later first Executive Director). He led the effort to secure DSC’s admission into the International Union for Conservation of Nature in 2015 and represented DSC at the 2016 World Congress and the 2019 CITES Conference of the Parties. An avid hunter and naturalist, Richard has worked closely with Mark Haldane for a decade and has been a supporter of the conservation efforts in the Zambezi delta region. Richard also serves as president of the Foundation.
